Research on Non-Market Strategy
Dr. Cunningham is a leading expert in non-market strategy, with a focus on the role of business-government relations in shaping economic and policy outcomes. His research has examined the dynamics of state-business relations in China, including the use of liberalization as a means of achieving state-led ends, the reversibility of economic liberalization, and the impact of firm decisions on the execution of broad central state policy changes. Through his research as a research follow at the Industrial Performance Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the National Bureau of Economic Research, he has also studied the diverging paths of Taiwan's automotive industry.
